Eatin' in Memphis

Updated: Jun 19

We've all heard Marc Cohn's iconic song "Walking in Memphis" that many people think of the moment anyone mentions Memphis, but I want to talk about my favorite thing to do - try different restaurants around town. There has been no shortage of good food since we arrived in the Bluff City, and we've had some wonderful nights out in every part of town. I'll break this post up into areas because Memphis has several, and even the suburbs are home to some great scenes.

Downtown

Flight Restaurant + Wine Bar

It was love at first ✈️ Flight✈️

We had an absolutely incredible experience here. This restaurant has such a fun concept where everything you could possibly want can be ordered flight-style, giving you the opportunity to try several different dishes in one night. If you wish, you can order a single small plate or a full size entree, too, so the options are limitless.

✨We started with a round of cocktails (I was very impressed with their Flight 75, which come on - who doesn’t love a good pun?) and an order of Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell.

✨Then, we got creative and built a few of our own custom flights. We went with a mix and match soup and salad flight, including their seasonal Cucumber Salad, Iceberg Wedge, and Lobster Bisque.

✨We ordered two custom wine flights, each including three 2 oz pours of Las Alturas Pinot Noir, Goldeneye Pinot Noir, and Red Schooner, a red blend. For our main course, we did another custom flight with the Bison Ribeye, Lamb Ribeye, and the chef’s special Ostrich Fan.

✨To finish, we did a custom dessert flight of Banana’s Foster Bread Pudding, the chef’s special Blueberry Strudel, and Key Lime Pie. Of course, I had to get an Espresso Martini to go with dessert.

It’s hard to say which menu items were my favorite or which I’d recommend over another because I truly thought every dish was exceptional, but if I did have to choose, my menu recs would be the Cucumber Salad, Lobster Bisque, Lamb Ribeye, and Key Lime Pie.

Flight is located at 39 S. Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103. Reservations are required for parties of 6 or more.

Catherine & Mary's

8 of us gathered here one night for dinner. My then fiancé (now husband!) believed we were going to dinner just the two of us, and he was so surprised when 6 of his closest friends showed up, too. We had such a good night, and the food was AMAZING. The architecture is stunning, and the decor is classy.

For Cocktails, I tried the Larry’s World, which was so up my alley. The house-made blueberry gin was absolutely delish. I had the Golden Hour as well, also very good.

The menu is broken up into snacks, small plates, pastas, and then entrees. The pasta dishes are quite small, so you can get a few for yourself or several to share. They do have a dessert menu that you can ask for once you’re ready. (I just opted to go with an espresso martini, & the one here is delightful)!

Alex and I split the C&M Caesar Salad and the Meatballs to start. We loved both so much that I don’t think we said a word to each other for several minutes. The salad is so fresh, and the meatballs are so flavorful and are served with some garlic ciabatta that you can soak up the sauce with! We also split the Raviolo pasta. I’d been eyeing this one since I glanced at the menu a few days prior. The ingredients were listed as chicken thigh, caramelized onion, sunchoke, spinach, and brown butter. If you just want to try one pasta, try this one.

Not sure what entree to order? Order. The. Duck. I was starting to get full when my entree came out, and I think that night was the first time I have ever finished my whole plate and gone home without leftovers.

You can make a reservation on Resy, or you can call the restaurant. Happy dining! We've been back since the above review, and it was just as delish.

Catherine & Mary’s is located at 272 S Main St., Ste. 105-A, Memphis, TN 38103.

The Majestic Grille

The Majestic Grille is such a unique spot because the restaurant pays homage to the building's history. Originally, it was The Majestic No. 1 Theatre, which opened in 1913, and to honor the space's cinematic history, silent films in black & white are displayed on a large screen on the back wall while you dine. I believe Alex and I just split their special on the night we visited, but our meal was delectable. They do ask you follow their dress-code as it's described as an upscale, casual, family-friendly spot.

The Majestic Grille is located at 145 S. Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103, and reservations can be made through Resy.

McEwen's

My sister was in town when we visited McEwen’s, and we ran into a bit of an interesting situation when we were at this one. Their bartender was out for some reason or another, so they told us they couldn’t make any of their featured cocktails. I thought it was weird that only one bartender is equipped to make their drinks, but on the other hand, this could just mean they are carefully curated and, therefore, absolutely delicious. Because of this, we just ordered some wine for the table.

The food here was great. We get their baked brie from the appetizer menu, which is served with seasonal compote, which was a delicious blueberry compote when we visited back in May! I really enjoyed this, but who doesn’t think cheese is un-brie-lievable?

Now, I ordered the Creole Spice Braised Pork Ossu Buco, which was served over stone ground cheddar grits and spicy collard greens, and this dish was absolutely amazing - a great combo of flavors. I believe my sister had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin, and I remember her really enjoying it. That one is served with a ruby port demi-glace over Yukon gold mashed potatoes with crispy bacon and leeks and a side of grilled asparagus. YUM! Alex got the Pulled Pork Sliders, served with house-made smoky-pimento cheese, apple slaw, and bbq aioli, off of the Small Plates-Big Taste menu and thought they were fantastic. We were definitely all too full for dessert.

McEwen's is located at 120 Monroe Ave, Memphis, TN 38103, and you can make a reservation on OpenTable. They’ve also got a location in Oxford, Mississippi, located at 1110 Van Buren Ave, Oxford, MS 38655.

Slider Inn

If you like sliders, a visit to Slider Inn is a must. Alex and I were waiting to meet up with a friend coming in from out of town to go to Slider Inn, so we’d killed some time at Longshot and split an appetizer there. Since we weren’t super hungry when we got to Slider Inn, we went ahead and split an order of sliders.

I highly recommend doing the mix & match for $15 so that you can try three different kinds. The sliders are served with your choice of side - shoestring fries, side salad, potato salad, or Fritos. You can also upgrade your side for an additional cost and get either a cup of chili, Frito chili pie, or lobster bisque. I don’t think you can go wrong here with whatever you choose, but we went with a classic side of fries, and for our slider choices, we went with the Chick’n-Fill-Ay, make it buffalo style, the Lowrider, and the Memphis.

Don’t forget to try their famous Jameson slushie, which is a frozen blend of Jameson, ginger beer, bitters, and house-squeezed lemonade. It’s excellent.

Slider Inn has both a Downtown location and a Midtown location. I’ve now been to both locations - the Downtown one is located at 363 Mulberry Street, Memphis, TN 38103, and the Midtown one is located at 2117 Peabody Ave, Memphis, TN 38104. Seating is first-come, first-serve at both, and, they both get very busy, especially on weekends. It is important to know that both locations become 21+ after a certain time to transition to a traditional bar atmosphere later in the evening (all ages welcome until 7 PM at the Midtown location and until 8 PM at the Downtown location).

Longshot

If you’ve never been to a shuffleboard bar, this is your sign to go. You can enjoy a delicious cocktail while challenging your friends or you partner to a friendly game of shuffleboard. They’ve also got a great looking food menu. Alex and I just split an order of LS Bar Fries, which were so unique with a Japanese-flair, and they absolutely surprised us with how delicious they were. The fries are served with long shot sauce, togarashi, tonkatsu, and sesame. If you aren’t hungry, at least grab an order of these.

We ended up having to wait around for a while, so I ended up trying three cocktails - the Summer Collins, Clover Club, and Bee’s Knees. Every single one was very yummy and something I’d order again and again.

Longshot accepts walk-ins, but you can also make a reservation via Resy, and LS is located at 477 S Main Street, Memphis, TN 38103.

Amelia Gene's

Downtown Memphis gained a new fine dining option in late October 2023, and if you haven't visited yet, this place needs to be added to your radar STAT. We've been twice now - once for a dinner date, and once for my birthday dinner with another couple.

Amelia Gene's will captivate you from the moment you step through their doors.

Nov. 2023 review -

🥂 I started with an Icelandic Lady. This cocktail is delightful - it isn't overly sweet or too dry. Alex started with a Shadow Woman and liked it so much, he ended up ordering a second one. I, of course, ended with an Espresso Martini, which was excellent.

🍽 We were brought small servings of Leek Soup as compliments of the chef, which surprised both of us. Neither of us thought we really cared for leeks, but we both thought this soup was creamy, flavorful, and utterly delicious.

🍽 Alex & I split an order of Golden Potato Fondue (with Tete de Moine and Black Truffle) as a Proper Bite before we moved onto our entrees. Such a delicacy and a real treat.

🍽 For my entree, I got the Big Eye Tuna, served with Foie Gras, Beetroot, Caponata and a Fig Reduction. The tuna was cooked to perfection and basically melted in my mouth. I barely had a bite left on my plate when I finished eating.

🍽 Alex got the Domestic Wagyu Filet (8 oz), served with Potato Tartlette, Vidalia Onion, and XO Sauce. Alex orders steaks frequently, and I have never heard him rave so much about a cut of meat. I just had to take a bite, and I definitely agreed with his assessment.

🍮 For dessert, we got an order of Salted Caramel Brûlée, which was INCREDIBLE.

The menu, the service, the ambience, and the overall vibe here are 🤌🤌🤌. We will absolutely be returning in the future.

Our next visit was in May 2024, and many of the same menu items were had because of how delish they were. New experiences included the cheese cart and a few new cocktails. 🥂 The Demeter's Vision is DELISH. I loved, loved this cocktail with gin, hibiscus syrup, raspberry leaf tea, and pomegranate foam. I also had a cocktail called the Take a Chance.

For the cheese cart, we chose 5 cheeses for $30 that we all shared and ended up ranking our favorites. We had the cart come to our table, our waitress went through them, and we chose the ones that were highly recommended by our waitress or that looked good to all of us.

Our friend Alexis got the Gulf Prawns starter and the Bucatini. I got the Half Rohan Duck with Kumquat, Butternut Squash, Endive, and Natural Sauce. I ate almost the entire dish. It was GREAT. The boys each got the wagyu filet (described above), and the Salted Caramel Brûlée made another appearance. AG did give us complimentary gourmet cookies at the end of our meal for my birthday - also amazing. They'd also left a birthday card on the table signed by the staff, which was such a nice touch

Amelia Gene's is located at 255 S Front St., Memphis, TN 38103, and you can make reservations through OpenTable.

Midtown

Babalu

Babalu has two locations, one in Overton Square in Midtown and one in East Memphis, and we’ve now been to both. The food and drinks are great at both. However, I think the space and decor at the one in Overton Square is more my style. I will say we haven't been to the East Memphis location since they remodeled it, so we will have to go check it out soon.

The cocktail menus are slightly different at each location, and if you’re interested, you can find those online. They’ve even got different seasonal sip and to-go menus for each one on their website. The Luna Rita is fantastic and so is the seasonal Bellini off the brunch menu!

Now, I had a seasonal drink during the summer at the East Memphis location called the “Feelin’ Like a Melon Bucks,” and I still think that was one of my favorite cocktails I’ve had, well ever. It was made with Seagrams watermelon vodka, fresh mint lime syrup, house-made citrus sour, agave nectar, and a mint, watermelon, and watermelon seed ice cube. The specialty ice cube kept it cold, which was amazing because we’d just been out in the sun at the botanical gardens, and it was such a unique touch. I bet any of their seasonal drinks will knock your socks off if as much thought is put into them.

Onto the food - You cannot go wrong with the table-side guacamole (+ jalapeños) or the tuna ceviche! I absolutely love sliders and lamb, so naturally, I ordered the lamb sliders with a side of fries, and let me tell you, what an excellent choice! I brought one slider and a few fries home with me for later, which reheated well. I usually like to try different menu items when I go back to a place, but I think I will be ordering the sliders again next time I find myself there - update: I get the lamb sliders every time we go to Babalu.

Alex got the short rib grilled cheese with a side of yellow rice & beans. I stole a bite of his grilled cheese and loved it. Note - 20% gratuity is added to checks for parties of 6 or more at Babalu.

The Babalu in Overton Square is located at 2115 Madison Ave., Memphis, TN 38104, and the Babalu in East Memphis is located at 6450 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119.

Bayou Bar & Grill

Bayou Bar & Grill has been around Overton Square since 1987, moving locations and switching ownership once. The idea originated by local Chef Michael Cahal who wanted to bring a taste of New Orleans to Midtown Memphis.

We visited Bayou Bar & Grill one Sunday morning for their Mardi Gras Brunch, offered every Saturday and Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM. We got there right when they opened and waited in line for a bit for a table, but it was a nice, sunny day in March, so we didn’t mind waiting. Bayou is a sports bar but also hosts local bands, and that information can be found on their Facebook page. I highly recommend the Oysters Rockefeller, Crab Stuffed Shrimp, and the Seafood Parmesan Dip. I also got the Mac’s Hash and liked it, but if you’re going to be eating on some apps first and ordering an entree, you might want to split the hash with someone else because it is a huge serving.

Bayou does not accept reservations and is located at 2094 Madison Ave, Memphis, TN 38104.

East Memphis

Coastal Fish Co.

Coastal Fish Company is hands down our favorite date night spot and our favorite place to bring out-of-town guests for dinner. Coastal Fish is located in Shelby Farms Park and overlooks Hyde Lake, which makes for some epic views at sunset. This is a fine dining restaurant, so we try to save it for special occasions, but I can’t say we haven’t headed there early on a Saturday afternoon to post up at the bar, enjoy a cocktail or two, and share some of our fave menu items. For cocktails, I’m a sucker for their Coastal 75, made with Seersucker gin, Tito’s vodka, wild berry Prosecco, and lemon, and their Thai Basil Gimlet, made with Roku gin, lime, and Thai basil. Now, let me tell you about these menu items that keep us going back. I love their Jumbo Cocktail Shrimp and Smoked Tuna Dip. The shrimp are so fresh, and the smoked tuna dip is so delicious when spread on a toasted baguette that they serve it with. Their Classic Wedge salad has become something Alex raves and brags about. He swears it’s the best wedge salad he’s ever had… and he’s had quite a lot of them. My all time favorite menu item is their Lobster Bisque. I got a cup of it the first time I visited and a bowl the second time, and I am pretty sure I licked the bowls clean both times. Obviously, we like their oysters. I don’t do Gulf oysters, so dining at Coastal Fish is always a treat since they’ve got those fresh East coast oysters on deck. My sister got the Crab Cakes for an entree and really enjoyed them. I’ve had the Live Maine Lobster, which was excellent, and I cannot remember what Alex tried. They just seem to know seafood.

Look up what time the sun sets, and head on over to OpenTable to book your patio reservation ASAP. If you’re wanting to visit on a weekend, just be aware that I have had to make a weekend reservation a few weeks in advance before, so keep that in mind!

Coastal Fish Company is located at 415 Great View Drive East, Memphis, TN 38134.

Magnolia & May Country Brasserie

We visited this one for brunch and started with a round of brunch bevs. Alex had a traditional Bloody Mary that he really enjoyed, but I had the Good Morning, Good Morning. If you like coffee and brunch cocktails, do yourself a favor, order the Good Morning, Good Morning, and thank me later.

For an app, we ordered 4 deviled eggs so that we could each have two. If you just want a taste, one is plenty because the eggs are big and flavorful, and they are served with a pickled green bean! Such an different, yet amazing, addition that we weren’t expecting!

I had so much trouble deciding what to order here because everything sounded so delicious. I landed on the Grilled Hanger Steak and was not disappointed. The steak sauce added so much flavor, and the grits were cooked to perfection. Alex had the Double Cheeseburger. The Cheese Skirt was another interesting choice that didn’t only add to the overall aesthetic but to the flavor. I stole a bite or two, and it was so yummy! We really enjoyed our entire experience at this one. I have heard Magnolia & May’s espresso martini cannot be skipped, and judging by the Good Morning, Good Morning, I can see why. They seem to know coffee, so a dinner visit is in our future. We have been back here twice since then - both for dinner. We went for their Christmas pop-up and then again for their Mardi Gras pop-up. So much fun.

Magnolia and May is located at 718 Mt. Moriah, Memphis, TN 38117, and reservations can be made through Resy.

Hog & Hominy

Hog & Hominy is an Italian restaurant with a southern twist that is open for dinner Mondays through Saturdays from 4 - 10 PM or for Sunday Brunch from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. We have since gone back for dinner, I brought some friends with me for a brunch, and Alex and I have just popped in for a night cap at the bar.

For this brunch visit, Alex got a Bloody Mary, I got their Mr. McGoff Mimosa, and we split their GF Sausage Balls & Liquid Hot Tongue seasonal pizza (tomato, pineapple, mozzarella, pepperoni, basil, and pepperoncini)! The tiny bomb honey mustard served with the sausage balls really tied the dish together, and I highly recommend keeping an eye out for that seasonal pizza’s return.

Hog & Hominy is located at 707 W Brookhaven Cir, Memphis, TN 38117, reservations can be made through Resy.

Owen Brennan's

Owen Brennan’s is famous for their Sunday Brunch buffet where you’ll hear the fine tunes of the Lannie McMillan Jazz Trio carrying through the restaurant. Seating times begin at 9 AM with final seatings at 2:30 PM. Since it is buffet style, the pricing is $49.47/adult and $23 for children ages 6 - 11, with no cost for ages 5 and under. Beverages are not included in this pricing and are an additional cost. You will find some true New Orleans cuisine at the buffet, like fried catfish, crawfish étouffée, pasta jambalaya, and more. If you are wanting to get there early to get a seat, and you plan to order a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa right at 9 AM, just remember you’ll have to wait until 10 AM to get your brunch drink of choice due to Tennessee liquor laws.

I haven’t been for lunch, but I have glanced at their lunch menu, and they note their poboys are made with Gambino’s bread. I grew up in the Big Easy and can attest that this is a GREAT sign as Gambino’s is a New Orleans staple.

Owen Brennan’s is located at 6150 Poplar Ave., Suite 150, Memphis, TN 38119. If you’re wanting to make a reservation, they must be made directly through their website, and they must be made at least 24 hours in advance. No reservations are accepted for Sundays, as their famous jazz brunch is first-come, first-serve only. You’ll want to get there early to make sure you get seated!

Central BBQ

We weren’t super hungry the first time Alex took me to Central, so we just split a few things off the menu. Every thing we did get was amazing though! We split a pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad and some of their wet smoked hot wings. I promise all of this is as good as it looks in my pictures! Now when we go, we usually get some rendition of these same menu items. I'm also a big fan of their bbq nachos.

We went to the Central BBQ in East Memphis located at 6201 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119, but there are several locations around Memphis, and there are two in Nashville.

Salsa Cocina Mexicana

Salsa is a California-style Mexican kitchen located in East Memphis. I never seem to take pictures of my food when we go there, but I do really like it. We like to split an order of their Spinach Queso Dip, which I am just now realizing you can add meat to! I also like their Tacos al Carbon, but if you’re like me and hate corn tortillas, be sure to ask for flour ones, and their Burrito de Carne Asada is also quite tasty. I usually get one Finest Call Mango frozen margarita to enjoy with my meal as well!

Salsa is located at 6150 Poplar Ave, Ste. 129, Memphis, TN 38119. Note- they are closed on Sundays.

Soul Fish Cafe

Soul Fish Cafe has become a place that we frequent, and I am always SO impressed. First off, please go there and try everything I’m about to recommend. The buffalo shrimp app over fries is absolutely incredible. I wasn’t super hungry, so I told Alex I was only going to try a few bites of my half of the Cuban sandwich since we were already splitting the shrimp app. I clearly lied because I ate my entire half! I had to go home and nap afterwards.. worth it.

These photos are from the Soul Fish Cafe in East Memphis, which is located at 4720 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38117. You’ll also find one in Midtown, Germantown/Collierville, and Wolfchase.

Germantown

Limelight

I’ve got a full review for you about our first visit to Limelight, a new spot perfect for a date night or a classy night out with your friends which recently opened in Germantown! We've been back to Limelight as least twice since this review below.

Limelight’s ambience, unique menu, expertly crafted cocktails, delicious food, and ever present wait staff made for a great dining experience. If you visit now, you’ll catch their Fall menu, which doesn’t have an overwhelming amount of options, but you can tell a lot of thought was put into each item that made it onto their menu!

✨Cocktails✨

🍸Hello Gord-geous. This one is cleverly named (who doesn’t love a fall pun?) and made with squash-infused vodka, licor 43, spiced rum, orange, and lemon. The squash infused vodka is so unique but the flavors in this drink pull together perfectly!

🍸Autumn Garden. This one is made with tequila, mezcal, fig liqueur, honey, and lemon. I’m usually not a mezcal girl, but the mezcal was subtle and not overpowering, so I ended up thinking this one was very well made!

🍸Mocha Martini. This one is just the most incredibly delicious twist on an espresso martini, well ever. Hats off to the bartender that created this masterpiece.

🍸Seasonal Old Fashioned. Right now, their old fashioned is classic with a little cinnamon twist lending to all the fall vibes!

✨Food✨

🍽Olive Tapenade. This app had a really unique flavor, but I highly recommend. It’s not too heavy, and if you ask nicely, they’ll bring you an extra plate of crostinis!

🍽Pork Belly Skewers. I absolutely LOVED these. The flavor of the pork was perfection, and make sure you grab a bite with radish, jalapeño, watercress, and all.

🍽Waygu Beef Flat Iron. Alex and I split everything so we could try a few different things. They were very nice to split this for us before bringing it out, and this melted in our mouths. The creme fraiche au poivre complimented the dish so well, and I am seriously drooling just remembering how great this tasted last night! It’s served with beef fat potato and grilled broccolini. What more could you want from an entree?

✨Dessert✨

🍨Gelato Flight. You can choose between three flavors, and we opted to do coffee, strawberry, and vanilla bean. All of these were GREAT.

Limelight is located at 7724 Poplar Pike, Germantown, Tennessee 38138, and you can make reservations through their website. There’s a grassy open lot next to the restaurant for overflow parking.

Germantown Commissary

Visiting the Commissary in Germantown or Collierville is a must if you’re itching for some good Memphis barbecue. The one in Germantown is the original, and the one in Collierville is equally delicious. I’ve only had a 1/2 order plate of their bbq ribs, which came with beans, slaw, a deviled egg, and bread. I loved all of it. Don’t forget to order a slice of pie for dessert!

The Commissary in Germantown is located at 2290 South Germantown Road, Germantown, TN 38138, and the Commissary in Collierville is located at 3573 S Houston Levee Rd, Collierville, TN 38107.

Collierville

Raven and Lily

Raven and Lily makes everything in house, and you can tell with how fresh all of their ingredients taste. You’ll get a bowl of pork rinds when you sit down, which I thought was so unique!

I really enjoyed the Little Red Tractor, R & L 75, and Espresso Martini for cocktails.

Onto the food! Alex and I split the shrimp cocktail and thought the sauces served with it were SO GOOD. We also split the mix greens salad, and the mustard and white balsamic vinaigrette was probably one of my favorite dressings I have tried.

We were torn between two entree options, so we asked the waitress for which one she preferred. She told us most people love the catfish, so we opted to go with that choice and split the crispy catfish, which we both absolutely loved. I thought the catfish was cooked to perfection, and I was particularly fond of the cumin carrots in the dish! Their portion sizes are big, so if you like to split, I’d recommend doing that! It also gives you the opportunity to try more of the menu.

The kitchen split our portions for us. All of the staff members were so friendly and didn’t rush us.

After their weekend brunch was recommended to us, we made a trip there to check it out. They really know how to make the classic brunch cocktails - Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Their chicken and biscuits are excellent. I got a rendition on a croque madame that was more like a stuffed croissant with a side of scrambled eggs. I was expecting more of the traditional sense of the dish, so I was a little surprised when it came out, but I still very much enjoyed my meal!

I recommend giving Raven and Lily a call to make a reservation because it is not a large space. We’ve gotten lucky and have been able to snag seats at the bar before.

Raven and Lily is located in Collierville’s Town Square at 120 W Mulberry St, Collierville, TN 38017.

Highlander Restaurant & Pub

Our favorite thing about visiting Highlander Restaurant & Pub is that they have live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from 7 to 10 PM. As an added bonus, they’re food and drinks are great. Alex likes to get their Orange Water, and I like either a glass of red sangria or the Sunset on the Square. We went to Highlander twice in two weeks because Alex’s parents came to visit and really wanted to try it out. The first time, Alex and I split a chopped wedge salad, which was very delicious. The second time when his parents were with us, we got the Sausage Board to share, and it was such a great twist on a charcuterie board, and we all very much enjoyed that. I’ve had the Greek Lamb Burger, which was served with tomato, onion, feta, and tzatziki sauce on a brioche bun with a side of skinny fries. There’s a Greek Lamb Burger at one of my favorite places in San Antonio, so I am always skeptical of trying new ones, but this one was yummy! The feta was served as a thick slice but made each bite flavorful. I’ve also had the Steak Pie, which proved to be the ultimate comfort meal. The warm puff pastry that it’s served with is almost like a pillow! Alex has had the Classic Fish & Chips, which he enjoyed, and the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, which he raved about. Do not leave here without an order of the Creme Brûlée Cheesecake - it is to DIE for.

Highlander Restaurant & Pub is located in the Town Square at 78 North Main Street, Collierville, TN 38017, and you can make a reservation via Resy.

Dyer's Cafe

Dyer’s Cafe is located in the Collierville Town Square and serves famous burgers that have been around for over a century. They claimed their fame from their unique techniques of cooking the patties in a skillet in “ageless grease.” Dyer’s has a small diner feel, and their food is incredibly affordable. My hair appointments are near the town square, and Alex and I love to meet up here for lunch when I finish. It’s become a bit of a tradition, and my favorite thing to order is the Chili Cheese Dog, although I do love one of their burgers, too. Their fresh cut fries are also delectable.

You’ll also find a Dyer’s Burgers Downton on Beale Street!

Dyer’s Cafe is located in the Town Square at 101 N. Center Street, Collierville, TN 38017.

El Porton Mexican Bar & Grill

If we are craving Mexican food, and we don’t want to leave Collierville, we almost always end up at El Porton. I had no idea until today that they have 5 locations in Georgia, 3 in Tennessee, and 2 in Arkansas, but it makes sense because of how good the food is. After living in Texas for two years, we consistently had excellent margaritas. Leaving the Lone Star State has been hit or miss with finding margaritas of equal or greater caliber, but I really enjoy El Porton’s flavored margs. Not only that, they’ve got the best al pastor tacos I’ve been able to find in the Memphis area!

The El Porton in Collierville is located at 1016 W Poplar Ave, Collierville, TN 38017. The other ones in Tennessee are also nearby, with one being in Germantown and one being in East Memphis.

Huey's Prescriptions

Huey’s has been around since 1970 and is known for “Blues, Brews, & Burgers.” I am a big fan of the Shrimp Po-Boy, buffalo style, although it can be hard to eat so grab a fork and knife! I also love the Fiesta Chicken Wrap, and if you’re craving a fried chicken salad, their Chicken Tenders Salad will definitely satisfy your craving.

Apparently Huey’s is known for live music on Sundays, but I have yet to experience this firsthand. There are now 10 Huey’s locations, but we frequent the one in Collierville, located at 2130 W Poplar Ave, Set. 101, Collierville, TN 38017.

Lost Pizza Co.

I don’t like to write about chains or franchises because I much prefer highlighting local businesses, but Lost Pizza Co. is so good that I can’t write this post without at least mentioning it. We are obsessed with their hot wings, and for pizza, we really like the Pit Boss - pulled pork, red onions, cheddar, & bacon with a bbq sauce drizzle - or the Kujo - bacon, hickory ham, pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, onions, green peppers, black olives, & mushrooms. Their chef salad and their mozzarella sticks are also quite tasty.

Lost Pizza Co. is located at 170 Washington St., Collierville, TN 38017. Check their website to see if there’s a location near you!

David Grisanti's On Main

Alex and I visited David Grisanti's for a date night on the day they opened their patio in 2024, and everything we had from drinks to our app to our salad to our entrees to dessert was delectable! Our server Carlos was such a vibe that I’m even looking forward to going to see him again one of these days!
